The Cuban Research Institute continues its tradition of convening scholars engaged in the study of Cuba and Cuban-Americans and proudly hosts its 8th Conference, “Cuba 2010: An Island in a Global World.” The conference focuses on current political, economic, cultural and social dynamics on the island and in the diaspora and is interdisciplinary and international in scope with over 140 participants and 31 concurrent panels examining a broad range of topics, including Cuba's insertion into the global economy, restructuring of the State, social welfare, corruption, civil society, race, gay rights, the role of women and youth, political culture in the Diaspora, U.S.-Cuba policy, entrepreneurship, contemporary expressions of culture, and the role of technology and the media, among others. Presented by FIU's Cuban Research Institute (CRI) and co-sponsored by LACC, CRI and the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Miami. Registration required.
