LACC proudly presents the Ayiti Images Traveling Film Series' premier of Deported, the first in a series of documentaries directed by Haitians and Haitian Americans. Through a sequence of portraits, Deported gives voice to convicted and sentenced offenders who, at the end of their prison sentences in North America, are deported to their home country, Haiti. Back in Port-au-Prince, a city they left as children, a new life begins for these "Americans" in an environment that can be both completely unfamiliar and hostile.
A panel on US Deportation Policy: A Humanitarian Crisis? features Rachèle Magloire, Co-director of the award-winning film Deported, Astrid Arrarás, FIU Senior Lecturer and Associate Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Politics & International Relations; Juan Carlos Gómez, Director of FIU’s Carlos A. Costa Immigration and Human Rights Clinic, and moderator Chantalle Verna, FIU Associate Professor in the Departments of History and Politics & International Relations.
With the generous support of Ayiti Images Film Series, the Green Family Foundation, and FIU's Haitian Student Organization.
