Ambassador William R. Brownfield served as US Ambassador to Chile (2002-2004), Venezuela (2004-2007) and Colombia (2007-2010)before being sworn in as Assistant Secretary for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs in January 2011. He has also served overseas as political adviser to US Southern Command in Venezuela, El Salvador, Argentina, Switzerland and Panama.
