The dance class is led by Louinis, accompanied by his son, Laurent Walter, music producer and head drummer for the Louines Louinis Dance Theater. The Louines Louinis Haitian Dance Theater takes the rich culture of Haiti and transforms it into art in this master dance and folklore class. The company mission is to promote awareness of Haitian culture, enhance the cultural identities of Haitian Americans.

Actually, she sings it, in the Quechua language, in a lullaby of terrible beauty, her voice as thin and pliant as a reed. She’s reporting the atrocities she endured during Peru’s 1980s political conflict. This is a story not about the specifics of war but its legacy, transmitted from mother to child through breastfeeding (a literal translation of the Spanish title is “The Frightened Tit”). The relationship between life and death is part of the Aymara philosophy of life that becomes visible at the Feast of All Saints. If life, in Aymara culture, is understood as a constant walk, then death is also understood as a walk, although in a different dimension.
