LACC Associate Director, Liesl Picard was elected to serve as the president of the Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs (CLASP). As the president, Picard will lead the organization in its primary mission to promote all facets of Latin American studies and to facilitate resource sharing and collaboration among Latin American Studies programs and professionals across the globe. CLASP continues to have a positive and significant impact on higher education, K-12 teaching, research and training related to the region and CLASP membership includes more than 60 institutions of higher education across the US. Picard, who previously served as CLASP Vice-President, will serve as CLASP President through 2014 and appreciates the "opportunity to continue to build upon the unique strengths that have come to characterize CLASP over its many years of commitment to Latin American studies."
