In 1979, what was FIU’s Caribbean and Latin American Studies Council became one of only eleven federally-funded Latin American Studies Centers in the country, under a Title VI grant awarded to FIU and UF. The name changed, and FIU’s Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC) was born.
