Dr. Gabriela Hoberman is the Director of Academic Programs at the Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center at Florida International University. She is the Faculty Director of LACC’s Study Abroad Program on Politics and International Relations in Argentina. Dr. Hoberman teaches comparative politics courses in the Department of Politics and International Relations, is a Faculty member of the Master of Arts in Global Affairs and collaborates as Affiliated Scholar, with the Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy. Dr. Hoberman is a political scientist and researcher in the field of disasters in Latin American and Caribbean countries. Her research interests include public policy, governance, and accountability. From 2014 to 2022 she was the Assistant Director of Research at FIU’s DRRA-Extreme Events Institute, with a focus on disaster risk reduction in the LAC region, advancing training of faculty and practitioners to help address the driving forces of disaster risk. Dr. Hoberman is a recipient of the Quick Response Grant from the Natural Hazards Center (NHC) where she conducted field research in the 2010 Chile’s earthquake and tsunami. Dr. Hoberman obtained her Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in the Department of Politics and International Relations at Florida International University. Her co-authored articles have appeared in journals such as Disaster Prevention and Management, Natural Hazards Review, International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, Natural Hazards, International Studies Perspectives and Environmental Hazards.
